Time to Replace Your Roof? Call for a Free Estimate!

The average lifespan for roof shingles is about 20 years but can be less when repairs are neglected or the roof is damaged in a storm. When it is time for reroofing, call the expert roofers at Top Notch Contracting, LLC for outstanding workmanship and customer service. We have more than three decades of experience replacing all types of residential and commercial roofing systems.

Do I Need a New Roof?

This is a common question among homeowners experiencing a roof problem. Many wonder when the problem can be repaired and when reroofing is necessary. There are a few factors that indicate when replacing the roof is a better option than repair. Our roofers will inspect your roof, provide a free estimate, and answer your questions about the process of replacing your existing roof.

You may need a new roof if:

  • The roof is more than 20 years old
  • There are missing shingles
  • Light can be seen through the roof boards
  • The shingles are buckling or curling
  • Roof shingles are falling apart in the valleys of the roof
  • You have noticed granules from your shingles accumulating in the gutters

The Reroofing Process

Reroofing can be done in a few different ways, either by tearing off the existing roof shingles and laying a new roof or adding a new layer of shingles directly on top of the existing shingles. There are advantages to simply laying new shingles over the old roof. This is less labor intensive and does not require disposal of the existing roof shingles, so the cost is generally lower than completely tearing off and replacing the entire roof.

However, there are situations when it is necessary to tear off and replace the existing roof. If there are already shingles from a previous roof under the outer roof shingles, you may need to tear off and replace the roof. Additionally, if there is damage to the roof sheathing, you should strip the roof to the bare sheathing and repair the damage before replacing the roof. Our roofing contractors will inspect your roof to determine the best method for your home.

Jeff and his crew are easy to work with, job done on time, and clean-up accomplished. Even worked with a snafu with the insurance! A great experience all around, highly recommend.

  • “Awesome crew”

“Tony and Scott made this happen with a very efficient and hard working crew on my new roof. Not only found cedar shakes under 2 layers of asphalt, but also instead of plywood at the bottom there was old school slats with large gaps older rafters. By law it must be up to code with plywood - and at the insurance companies dime. So with this huge problem encountered they still had my beautiful roof installed by the end of the day! Tony Kennedy came through quickly. Yes, I would recommend! Top Knotch Contracting and have been doing so to several neighbors. 5 STARS!”
